The Anvil pub, in Mansfield Woodhouse, was the venue. The landlady, Janet, and my very good friend, Sam, decided that they would get themselves sponsored to have their heads shaved, all to benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre, via VixPix.

Russell, from Intek Hairdressing Studio, in Mansfield (01623 427743) came prepared with his tools of the trade and it wasn't long before Sam was sporting a terribly fetching "GI Jane".

It came as a shock to me, as I was terribly dubious as to the results, but I needn't have been. Honestly... she looks beautiful!

As does Janet! Whoever knew that they would both look so good, having had their lovely locks removed? Well, certainly not Russell, who was nearly in tears as he erased the thing he usually makes his living from.

Next up was Steve. Good on him, like, but it just doesn't have the same impact when a short-haired man has his head shaved, as when it's a woman, does it? Still... he looks good and the pot was passed round for donations.

Having cleared up copious hair, from the floor of the lounge bar, at The Anvil, our attentions turned to the big bag of wax strips we had brought along.

First up were Chris and Daniel. Two very brave young men, who had their legs waxed. Drop some money in the pot and get to tear off a wax strip. As you can see from the photographs, there were many, many willing hands!

Ian had his back waxed; John, his chest (despite his hairs wanting to stay well and truly where they were); Mike and Sean both had a "crack wax" - all very wince-worthy; Bart, despite the women present telling him how much it would hurt, had his armpits waxed (did anyone tell him about de-oderant sting?); and I had my mustache removed by Janet.

The money in the pot, from the night, was £286.93 I'll let you know a final total, as soon as we get the sponsor money in.
